Round the Island Yacht Race and competing in the Suhaili Round the Island Challenge Trophy - Weekend of 22-24 June 2007

The world’s largest and most famous yachting race, the JPMorgan Asset Management Round the Island Race, took place on the 23rd June 2007 in Cowes, Isle of Wight, England. In all, 1753 boats competed over the 50-mile course around the Isle of Wight in a race that saw some of the biggest names in the sailing world. Those who had been on the previous 2 events thought this was the best sail yet. We had decent winds for most of the race and although showers always threatened we were all pretty lucky to remain dry apart from one or two of our fleet who were caught in a violent squall towards the end of the race. Soaked but undefeated we all completed the course in the best times yet and had a cracking sail.

This year was better than ever.

• We had larger yachts – 68ft Clippers, from Sir Robin Knox-Johnston’s Clipper Ventures fleet, made available for the first time in this event.

• The Clipper 68’s were racing in their own class in the race, which was the One Design class with the biggest yachts.

• The weather was good for a cracking sail! Have a look at some of the Pictures.

The yachts were as usual, from Sir Robin Knox-Johnston’s Clipper Ventures fleet, crewed and helmed by members of The Little Ship Club (LSC) and The Worshipful Company of Management Consultants.

The Suhaili Challenge was contested by just 2 boats this year (rather like the America's Cup!!) and won very well by Western Australia with Keith Graham (LSC) and Martin Down representing the Company. The runner up was Victoria Clipper who had Ed Sankey and Mark Churchward on board representing the Company. Well done to Western Australia's company !

Community of Change Practitioners

Last year Freeman Kate Griffiths set up the Community of Change Practitioners (CCP) and invites Members to attend its next session which will take place from 18.45 to 21.00 on Monday, 5 March at The Cheshire Cheese, Little Essex Street, off the Strand: See Map.

Kate and Claire White will facilitate the main session using the technique of Open Space Technology/the Big Conversation to explore how each person would like the CCP to evolve. There will be a bar and the CCP will provide a buffet. CCP will levy a charge of £10 per person to cover the room hire and the buffet.

Please contact Kate Griffiths for further information. She needs to know who wishes to attend by 7 February in order to arrange the catering.

Ridley Hall Conference for Christians in Consultancy

Please see this message from Past Master Calvert Markham:

Over the last 10 years, there have been regular meetings of a Christians in Consultancy group at Ridley Hall theological college in Cambridge. Membership of this group is open to all Christian consultants and this Spring the Ridley Hall Foundation is hosting a conference that is open to all consultants who may be interested. See http://www.crucialinsights.org.uk/ for more information about the conference or if you would like to know more about the group. Also the Ridley Hall Conference Brochure is posted here.

The Company were joined by the Sea Cadets at The Lord Major's Show.

This year Sea Cadets from numerous London Units were joined on their float by members of The Worshipful Company of Management Consultants, one of the City's newest livery companies, which generously sponsored this year's float as part of its ongoing support for Sea Cadets in the London Area. A band comprising Cadets from Southern Area also came together especially for the Show. [Extract from The Marine Society & Sea Cadets newsletter, November 2006]
