Dennis enjoyed a full career in the Royal Artillery. He travelled world-wide and particular high-lights included mounted duty with the King's Troop RHA, liaison work in the South of France and on the Army staff of the Joint Services Staff College at the time of its formation. On leaving the Army he was appointed manager of a wildlife charity and has since spent the last four years as the Bursar of a busy, thriving school. The Worshipful Company of Management Consultants – Charity Golf Day The first Company Charity golf day took place at the Beautiful Bowood Country Park Golf Course. Set within the grounds of the magnificent Bowood House near Chippenham, the location, weather and company could not have been better for a fine day’s golf. The Company was represented by Founder Liverymen Jeremy Drew, Paul Thornton and Paul Northcott and 17 invited guests and friends.
The course and the weather ensured that, whilst the standard of golf in some instances (mainly my own) was not of the highest standard, the walk was not, as Oscar Wilde would have it, spoiled. There were a number of competitions these included
The prizes were provided by very kind donations from Jeremy Drew of Alto Resources, QA and a personal donation from Third Warden Hugh Morris. This gift was all the more generous as he is not even a golfe,r although he would have enjoyed all the pheasants that we saw during the day!
Of all the competitions perhaps the most interesting was “The Worshipful Ball”. Each team was given one specially marked ball which they had to play in turn. The ball must survive the entire round and the team with the highest score wins. It is worthy of note that my team managed to lose their ball after the very first shot of the day! The winning team were a mixture of QA and the RAF (shown above)
Only two players succumbed to the £50 (divided by handicap) fine for putting their ball into the water. The overall winner with a magnificent 37 points was Jon Crofts from Vodafone. No doubt he will be having a serious discussion with his handicapping committee when he returns. To finish the day the club provided an excellent 3 course dinner prior to the prize giving and the whole day raised a little over £310 for the Centre for Charity Effectiveness. Everyone agreed that this was an excellent day and a repeat next year would
most probably be even better supported. Royalist Regatta, 16th - 17th May 2004 A group of Company Members, skipped by Immediate Past Master
Patrick McHugh, took part in this year's Royalist Regatta - a fund- Everyone enjoyed the experience and expressed intent to "join the swallows" and return next year.
The Master's Dinner, 29th April 2004 In the splendid surroundings of Stationers' Hall, Members of the Company celebrated with The Master at his annual Dinner. We were honoured to have many guests and friends with us on the evening, including our Sponsoring Alderman, Alderman The Lord Levene of Portsoken, KBE and his wife, Lady Levene. The Very Revd. Dr. John Moses, Dean of St. Paul's Cathedral treated those present to a lively address prior to his toast to the Company. The Master awarded the Wardens' Quaich to its first winner, Gordon Stoker, for his sterling work on behalf of the Company. The Quaich had been donated to the Wardens by Past Master Mike Jeans in celebration of his eleven years on the Court of Wardens.
The AGM & Members' Reception, 7th April 2004 Members of the Company convened in the impressive lecture theatre at Cass Business School for the Company's first formal AGM. The Annual Report for 2002/2003 had been distributed in advance of the meeting and further copies are available from The Clerk. Vice Admiral Sir Neville Purvis, KCB, reported on the continuing links between the Company and the Sea Cadets and The Master presented this year's award to North East London Sea Cadets, winners of this year's competition for the best adventrue training proposal in the London area.

the history and progress of the Centre for Charity Effectiveness, a
joint venture between the Company and Cass and transcripts of their
talks are available in the Library in the Members' only section of the
site. Members are encouraged to read these transcripts as they The evening was rounded off with a Reception, much enjoyed by all!
